Lieutenant-General Said Chengriha supervises installation ceremony of Brigadier General Yahia Ali Oulhadj as new commander of the National Gendarmerie

Chief of Staff of People’s National Army, Lieutenant-General Said Chengriha, supervised the ceremony of handing over power and installing of Brigadier General Yahya Ali Oulhadj as commander of the National Gendarmerie, succeeding Major General Noureddine Gouasmia, according to a statement by the Ministry of National Defense.

The statement indicated that after the reception ceremony, Lieutenant-General paid tribute to martyr Larbi Ben M’hidi, whose name is borne by the headquarters of the National Gendarmerie, where he laid a wreath at the memorial of the martyr and recited the Fatiha of the holy Coran on his pure soul and the souls of all the righteous martyrs.

The inauguration ceremony began with Lieutenant-General’s inspection of the National Gendarmerie personnel’s squares lined up in the Flag Square, after which he announced the official installation of the new commander of the National Gendarmerie:

“On behalf of the President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, and in accordance with the presidential decree dated August 1, 2021, I have officially appointed Brigadier General Yahya Ali Oulhadj as Commander of the National Gendarmerie, succeeding Major General Noureddine Gouasmia.

Accordingly, I command you to work under his authority, obey his orders, and implement his instructions as dictated by the interest of the service, in application of military rules and regulations in force, and the laws of the Republic, and in fulfillment of the sacrifices of our righteous martyrs, and in perpetuation of the values ​​of our glorious revolution.”

After presiding over the ceremony of handing over power, Mr. Chengriha held a meeting with the executives and employees of the National Gendarmerie, where he delivered an orientation speech in which he stressed that the conspiracies and intrigues being plotted against Algeria, which he has always warned of on many occasions, are not the fruit of imagination, as some claim, but it is a reality that has become apparent to the public and that the army will confront, backed by the valiant Algerian people.

In this particular regard, I reiterate that People’s National Army will know how to confront all those who plot against the country and lie in wait for it, backed in this lofty mission by the valiant Algerian people.

Lieutenant General also stressed the wonderful images of solidarity that our people have drawn these days as a result of the alarming spread of Covid-19 pandemic, through its mobilization, along with its state institutions, to mitigate the consequences of this pandemic, and to extend a helping hand to the injured and public health staff.

Mr. Chengriha concluded his speech by expressing his optimism that the new Algeria is making its way, despite everything, with steady steps towards its correct and sound destination.
