Two people were injured and 31 fires brought under control on Monday evening in Algiers, following the use of pyrotechnic products on the occasion of the celebration of the Mawlid Ennabawi, said Tuesday a report by the Civil Protection.
“On the eve of Mawlid Ennabawi, Civil Protection units rescued two people suffering from burns and extinguished 31 different fires, across 24 communes of Algiers,” the report said, stressing that “the response took place from 18:20 to 00:00”.
The civil protection units “provided the necessary care and then evacuated to hospital a 14-year-old child with burns in his mouth in Bouzareah, and a 51-year-old man with injuries in his left cheek in Rouiba,” the same source said.
Civil protection of Algiers extinguished the fires of a house in Dar El Beida and another fire in El Harrache and Sidi Abd Allah. Civil protection Rapid Intervention Units were also able to extinguish 04 fires on the balconies of houses in El Harrache, Bir Khadem, Birtouta and Cheraga.
The Civil Protection has set up an operational security apparatus, especially in large cities; where pyrotechnic products such as fireworks and firecrackers are are frequently used.
