Minister of Communication: National Press Day is an opportunity to appreciate the efforts of the Algerian journalist in preserving Algeria sovereignty

Minister of Communication Mohamed Bouslimani affirmed, today, Saturday, that the state has worked to promote the appropriate professional environment for the press family, so that it can contribute to highlighting Algeria’s positive role under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, noting that this role has become “a subject of regional and international praise.”

Mr. Bouslimani said in his speech during the ceremony honoring the journalists who won the President of the Republic Award for Professional Journalist in its eighth edition, which bore the theme “The Sixties of Independence: Yesterday’s Challenges, Today’s Challenges”, that this occasion serves as a reminder of “the effective role played by the Algerian journalist through the various paths that the country has gone through,” noting that October 22 is an opportunity to express “deserved gratitude” to the family of the national press, which did not hesitate to sacrifice for the sake of Algeria and accompany efforts to achieve development and preserve the sovereignty of the country and the dignity of its people wherever they are.

He pointed out that this role “has become more emphatic today, in support and highlighting the significant gains achieved within the framework of implementing the commitments of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, based on restoring the prestige of the state and its balanced and constructive role, building a diversified, productive and competitive economy, in addition to ensuring the dignity of the Algerian citizen.”

In the same context, Mr. Bouslimani added, “Given the targeting of our country in various ways, especially cyber attacks, the national press has the duty to contribute strongly to repelling attempts to disrupt Algeria’s firm positions and its sovereign decisions.”

In this regard, he expressed his confidence in “a qualitative contribution of the public and private press to the success of the coverage of the 31st session of the Arab Summit on the first and second of November in Algeria, for which our country has created all the conditions to be distinguished by all standards.”

In this context, Mr. Bouslimani called on the national press to “ensure proper media accompaniment to this major regional event that our country will host in a few days.”

In another context, the minister stated that “our country is preparing to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the outbreak of the great revolution of November 1,” noting that the journalists were “an integral part of our liberation struggle, which represents a model for peoples eager for liberation and emancipation, which always enjoy the unconditional support of Algeria”.

He considered that the selection of memory as a theme of this year’s competition is an “emphasis on the effective role of the journalist in taking care of the affairs of the homeland in its various conditions and maintaining its stability and prosperity.”

In this context, he noted all the works participating in this edition and in the various approved categories, which amounted to 325 works, which is – as he said – “a record number compared to the previous seven editions.”
