Minister of Environment participates in UN Ministerial Conference on Marine Litter and Plastic Pollution

Minister of Environment, Dr. Samia Moualfi, participated, today, Thursday in the Ministerial Conference on Marine Litter and Plastic Pollution, organized by the United Nations Environment Assembly of the United Nations Environment Program, via videoconference.

In a speech delivered by the Minister on the occasion, she considered that this participation reflects our country’s commitment to implementing the international commitments we have undertaken and the will to benefit from experiences on the problem of marine litter and plastic pollution to achieve sustainable development goals, referring to the President’s Program, which gave priority to providing a qualitative living atmosphere for citizens with more environment interest and work for a true model of sustainable development that ensures decent living and the welfare of the present person and preserves the environment of future generations.

She also touched on efforts made by Algeria to combat marine pollution by developing an important legal arsenal to deal with environmental issues and comply with international obligations.

The Minister suggested the establishment of an intergovernmental negotiating committee leading to the adoption of a comprehensive approach based on technical and financial assistance adapted to the specific circumstances of each country in order to strengthen global governance on the subject.
