Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, highlighted today, Tuesday, the important role of the non-aligned states in the international efforts aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reiterating Algeria’s unswerving support to the struggle of the Palestinian people until they recover their independence.
In his intervention during the proceedings of the ministerial meeting of the Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement on Palestine, held via videoconference, Mr. Boukadoum said, “We are firmly convinced that the non-aligned countries, given their political and diplomatic weight, can and must play a major role within the international efforts aimed at addressing the source of the conflict and enforce the respect of international legitimacy.
Boukadoum reiterated that “Algeria will continue its unswerving support for the Palestinian people so that they can achieve their legitimate aspirations and their inalienable rights in an independent State of Palestine with Al-Qods Al-Charif as its capital,” recalling that “the Non-Aligned Movement group has always been a strong defender of all peoples living under Occupation yoke.
He affirmed, “Our support for the Palestinian cause, in fact, is reflected by our historical commitment to the values held by the founders of our movement, especially when it comes to a just cause,” calling in this regard for the organization to move decisively in the Security Council to contribute effectively to the promotion of the group’s views in the Council.
Meanwhile, the head of the Algerian diplomacy called on the United Nations Security Council and the Quartet (European Union, Russia, United States of America and United Nations) to renew their commitment to a rights-based approach in order to create a climate and conditions conducive to the resumption of the peace process in accordance with relevant United Nations regulations.
In this context, Mr. Boukadoum stated that the holding of this event, shows the movement’s solidarity with Palestine and constitutes a good opportunity to collectively reflect on the recent attacks of the Zionist occupier against Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip and occupied Jerusalem (Sheikh Jarrah and Bab al-Amoud).
It is worth noting that this session, which is held at the request of the Republic of Azerbaijan, aims at emphasizing the firm position of Non-Aligned Countries, their support for the legitimate rights of Palestinian people, as well as their permanent solidarity with them.
