Minister of Higher Education discusses with Spanish ambassador to Algiers bilateral cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelbaki Benziane, examined, today, Sunday, with the Spanish Ambassador to Algiers, Fernando Morán Calvo-Sotelo, cooperation relations between the two countries in the field of higher education and scientific research and ways and means to enhance and promote them, according to a statement of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The statement indicated that the meeting allowed the two parties to address “cooperation and exchange in the field of higher education and scientific research and ways and means to strengthen and promote them between Algerian and Spanish universities, especially the teaching of the Spanish language and the expansion of the Cervantes Institute’s branches to include other provinces, notably in the east and south of Algeria.”

The two parties also agreed to “intensify the mobility of professors, researchers, training programs and scientific research.”

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research affirmed, in this regard, to the Spanish ambassador his keenness to “encourage and strengthen the teaching of foreign languages, including Spanish,” noting that it “ is part of the Algerian university’s openness to the international environment.”

In this connection, the Ambassador of Spain expressed his “thanks to the Algerian side for organizing the joint study day between the higher education sector and scientific research with the participation of a number of Spanish companies operating in Algeria,” stressing that “a number of these companies expressed their desire to participate in such events.”

The Spanish ambassador pledged to “move forward in promoting bilateral cooperation to include other areas of common interest.”

The two sides also discussed the ongoing preparations for the holding of the high-level Algerian-Spanish joint committee.
