Minister of Justice: Towards reviewing Basic Law of Police Officers and disbursing grant for collection of criminal fines

The Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Abderrachid Tebbi, confirmed today, Thursday, that his sector is reviewing the basic law of law enforcement officers and the ensuing privileges, adding that the decree regarding the payment of the grant for the collection of penal fines will be presented to the government for approval in the next few days.

In response to the questions of two deputies regarding the professional and social status of the law enforcement agents, during an open session of the National People’s Assembly devoted to asking oral questions to members of the government, Mr. Tebbi explained that the services of his sector are “currently reviewing the Basic Law issued by Executive Decree 08-409 of  December 24, 2008, which will result in the opening of the door for employment for holders of higher degrees, a reclassification of the various ranks of the personnel of the secretariat employees with a review of the period of promotion in grades, in addition to creating senior positions in this corps and enriching the aspect related to rights and duties.

As for the employees of the prison administration sector, a draft executive decree has been prepared – the minister adds – specifying the special provisions applicable to similar employees. The content of the aforementioned project was discussed by a technical committee at the level of the General Directorate of Public Employment and concluded that it should be presented to the Prime Minister’s table.

In response to a question regarding the lawyer’s professional qualification certificate competition, Mr. Tebbi revealed that “the date of its organization will be announced before the end of next March.”

As for the disbursement of the (Covid-19) grant for the benefit of health users working in penal institutions, he confirmed that “the decree regarding has been presented to the government, awaiting approval within days, which concerns more than 1,400 beneficiaries.”

For reference, the People’s National Assembly held today a public session devoted to directing 26 oral questions to 6 ministers, as the questions were distributed to the sectors of the interior, local groups, urban development, justice, higher education and scientific research, agriculture and rural development, housing, urbanization and the city, as well as health.
