Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry: Mobilization of liquid oxygen production and transportation enterprises

Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Abderrahmane Lotfi Djamel Benbahmed, said yesterday, Thursday, that the enterprises operating in the manufacturing and transportation of liquid oxygen have been mobilized in order to meet the demand of all hospitals.

“The Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry have mobilized all means of producing and transporting liquid oxygen so that a cell at the level of the first ministry will coordinate in order to deliver liquid oxygen to all hospitals,” the minister revealed in a post of the ministry on its official Facebook page.”

The minister added that the issue is not only related to the production of oxygen, but also its transportation through «a continent size country”, highlighting the need to respond to all requests in light of the huge number of health structures.

The minister stated that Algeria currently produces about 430,000 liters of liquid oxygen per day, which represents three times the production rate in 2020, stressing that this quantity represents approximately 400 million liters of gaseous oxygen, which will enable it to take care of tens of thousands of patients.

Benbahmed also announced a near increase in the production of liquid oxygen, with new operators starting the activity, “which are about to complete their facilities to enter production in the coming weeks.”

The minister revealed that, in addition to these production capacities, many import operations of oxygen concentrators have been included. He explained that about 6000 capacitors are scheduled to be imported during the coming weeks, including about 1,000 in the coming days.

Benbahmed went on to say, “This will enable us to address the problem of patients who are provided with oxygen at home or in places that lack oxygen therapy structures.
