Ministers of Education and Health call on education staff to get vaccinated as the only way out

On the occasion of the launch today, Sunday, of a fourth campaign to vaccinate the staff of national education sector against the Corona virus (Covid-19), the Mi nister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, and the Minister of Health, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, renewed their call for vaccination as the “only way out” from this epidemic.

In a video conference organized at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Education, supervised by the two ministers and devoted to launch of the fourth campaign to vaccinate the education sector’s staff, concurrently with the suspension of studies for a period of 10 days, as of last Thursday, Mr. Belabed stressed that this encounter urges the education and health directors throughout the national territory to respect the decision to suspend studies and take advantage of this circumstance to review lessons, not to go out to public places.”

The minister said, on the occasion,  that this conference is an opportunity to give directions and instructions to education directors to start a fourth vaccination campaign targeting teachers, workers and administrative staff as from today Sunday until next Thursday, expressing at the same time his conviction that the “only way out” from the outbreak of the epidemic is vaccination, which keeps everyone healthy.

The same official mentioned the official figures that showed that the largest proportion of those infected with the Corona virus during this period and were seriously affected and sometimes died “did not receive the vaccine,” revealing that his sector “will use the period of suspension of studies to sterilize all educational institutions so that our children return to study in good health conditions.”

Mr. Belabed did not miss the opportunity to commend the health sector’s cooperation in the field of vaccination by transporting medical staff to educational institutions to secure vaccinations since the launch of the current school year.

As for the Minister of Health, he described the current wave of infections with the Corona virus as “very harsh” for students, noting that his sector “works and coordinates with the education sector to provide the necessary recommendations and directives to those concerned across the various provinces of the country for the success of the vaccination campaign for the benefit of education staff and to protect our children and the society as a whole”.

In this context, Mr. Benbouzid stressed the “paramount” importance of the vaccine, as he stressed, “It does not protect against infection, but it reduces the percentage of harm,” citing some statistics of his sector, which say that 8 out of 10 patients admitted to hospital are “unvaccinated while the percentage of those in intensive care who were not vaccinated reached 100 percent.”

The Minister of Health concluded by saying that we, as parents and educators, are “responsible for the health of our children, and we must protect them, because they have no responsibility in case they get infected by the virus.”

The Minister of National Education recently expressed, after his meeting with representatives of parents’ associations, his dissatisfaction with the vaccination rate in the sector, which represents so far only a third of the employees (33 percent).
