Ministry of Justice: “This heinous crime will not go unpunished”

Ministry of Justice issued a communiqué, today, Thursday, regarding what was circulated on social media yesterday, Wednesday, August 11, 2021, about the killing of a citizen.

“Following what circulated on social media on August 11, 2021, about the killing of a citizen by burning, the public prosecutor at Larbaa Nath Irathen Court informs the public opinion, according to Article 11 of Code of Criminal Procedure, of the following:

A group of citizens arrested three people who were on board a car, after being suspected that they were involved in forest fires in Larbaa Nath Irathen area. After they beat them, the police services intervened to rescue them and transferred them to police headquarters.”

The same statement added, “However, the same group continued to attack the police headquarters using violence and they managed to get one of the three out and drag him outside police headquarters to the city square, beating him and setting his body on fire, which led to his death.

The policemen who intervened to protect and rescue the victim suffered varying injuries.”

The statement concluded, “The Republic’s Public Prosecution, the judicial police, ordered the opening of an investigation into the circumstances of the case to reveal the identity of the perpetrators and bring them before the justice to obtain their strict punishment, in accordance with the requirements of the laws of the Republic so that this heinous crime does not go unpunished, and public opinion will be informed of the results of the investigation.”
