Ministry of National Defense: 7 elements of support for terrorist groups across the country arrested within over last week

Detachments of the People’s National Army were able to arrest 7 elements of support for terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory over the last week, according to a report issued today, Wednesday, by the Ministry of National Defense.

The source indicated that “as part of the continuous efforts aimed at combating terrorism and fighting organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of the People’s National Army, carried out several operations during the period from March 30 to April 5, 2022, that yielded qualitative results thus reflecting the extent of high professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our armed forces throughout the national territory.”

In this regard, it was noted that “as part of combating terrorism, detachments of the People’s National Army arrested 7 elements of support for terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.”

With regard to operations to fight against organized crime, and to continue “the relentless efforts aimed at confronting the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, joint detachments of the National People’s Army, in coordination with various security services in the second and third military regions, arrested 4 drug dealers and thwarted attempts to smuggle in large quantities of drugs across the border with Morocco, estimated at 8 quintals and 33 kilograms of treated cannabis, while 10 other drug dealers were arrested and 4,862 hallucinogenic tablets were seized during various operations across other military regions.”

According to the same source, detachments of the People’s National Army in Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Ain Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf arrested “84 people and seized a Kalashnikov type machine gun, a quantity of ammunition, 14 vehicles, 104 electric generators, 62 pressure hammers, 9 metal detectors, quantities of explosives, detonation equipment and other materials used in illegal gold mining operations, while 11 other people were arrested in possession of 4 hunting rifles and 20 quintals of tobacco in El Ouedi, Oum El Bouaghi and Khenchela.

In a related context, the border guards thwarted “attempts to smuggle in large quantities of fuel, estimated at 53508 liters, in Tebessa, El Tarf, Souk Ahras and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, while 265 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested in Djanet, Tlemcen, In Amenas and Ain Guezzam.”
