Ministry of National Defense: attempts to smuggle in more than 14 quintals of drugs across the border with Morocco were thwarted

Joint detachments of the People’s National Army managed, in coordination with the various security services, in various operations during the past week, to arrest 50 drug dealers and thwart attempts to smuggle in more than 14 quintals of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco, according to a statement issued today, Wednesday, by the Ministry of National Defense.

The same source explained that “in the context of the continuous efforts made in the fight against terrorism and against organized crime in all its forms, units and detachments of People’s National Army carried out, during the period from 16 to 22 November 2022, several operations that yielded qualitative results thus reflecting the extent of the high professionalism, vigilance and constant readiness of our armed forces throughout the national territory”.

The statement indicated that “joint detachments of the People’s National Army arrested 7 elements supporting terrorist groups in separate operations across the national territory.”

Detachments of People’s National Army also arrested, in “Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Djanet and Tindouf, 98 people and seized 39 vehicles, 149 generators, 66 hammers, 13 metal detectors, 8 tons of a mixture of gold ore and stones, in addition to quantities of explosives and detonation equipment in addition to other equipment used in illegal gold exploration operations”.

In a related context, “border guards, in coordination with the national gendarmerie, thwarted attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel estimated at 27,076 liters in Tebessa, Souk Ahras, El Tarf and Tamanrasset, while 123 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested across the national territory.”.
