The ministers of Energy and Mines, Health, Pharmaceutical Industry and Higher Education and Scientific Research agreed, on Sunday in Algiers, to set up a working group bringing together representatives of these sectors to deal with the application of nuclear energy techniques in the field of human health, according to a press release from the Energy Ministry.

During a coordination meeting held at the headquarters of the Atomic Energy Commission (COMENA), the Ministers of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, Health, Abdelhak Saihi, Pharmaceutical Industry, Ali Aoun and Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari agreed on the set-up of this group, in the presence of executives from the ministries concerned, COMENA and researchers from nuclear research centres.

The meeting also discussed the orientation of investment in nuclear energy techniques towards medical use, including radiotherapy, among others, for cancer patients.

This is in application of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, issued during the meeting of the Council of Ministers which he chaired on Sunday 5 February, according to the same source.

It should be recalled that the Minister of Health, along with the Minister of Energy and Mines, laid the foundation stone for the project to build two radiotherapy units at the Public Hospital Establishment (EPH) of Rouiba “Mohamed Bahra” and the University Hospital Centre (CHU) Isaad Hassani of Beni Messous on 2 February.
