United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has nominated the diplomat Staffan De Mistura to take the position of Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Western Sahara, a high-ranking Sahrawi official confirmed on Friday.
” Secretary-General of the United Nations has suggested the name of Staffan De Mistura to the two parties of the conflict, Morocco and Polisario Front, and he is awaiting a response to this nomination”, the prominent Sahrawi diplomat revealed to APS.
In the event that the proposal of the UN Secretary-General is approved, the Italian diplomat of Swedish origin, de Mistura, will be the fifth envoy of the United Nations Organization to Western Sahara, and he will succeed the German Horst Kohler.
