
The “Declaration of Algiers” emanating from the “Reunification Conference for Achieving Palestinian National Unity”, which was signed by the Palestinian factions today, Thursday in Algiers, stressed the importance of Palestinian national unity as a basis for steadfastness and resistance to the Zionist occupation, to achieve The legitimate goals of the Palestinian people.
The “Declaration of Algiers” which stems from the “Uniting Conference for Achieving Palestinian National Unity” held in Algiers from 11 to 13 October, is an embodiment of the initiative announced by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, after consultation and coordination with the President of the State of Palestine and the President of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Mahmoud Abbas, during his visit to Algeria from 5 to 7 December 2021.
The “Declaration of Algiers” affirmed “the consolidation of the principle of political partnership between the various Palestinian national forces, including through elections, allowing broad participation in the upcoming national challenges in the homeland and in the diaspora,” and “taking practical steps to achieve national reconciliation by ending the division,” as well as “Strengthening and developing the role of the Palestine Liberation Organization and activating its institutions with the participation of all Palestinian factions, as it is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people with all its components”.
The same document also stipulated “the election of the Palestinian National Council at home and abroad, wherever possible, with a system of full proportional representation in accordance with the agreed formula and the approved laws with the participation of all Palestinian forces within a maximum period of one year from the date of signing this declaration.”
On this occasion, Algeria expressed its readiness to host the new Palestinian National Council, which received “thanks and appreciation from all the factions” participating in this conference.
The “Declaration of Algiers” urged “accelerating the holding of general, presidential and legislative elections in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, the capital of the Palestinian state, in accordance with the laws adopted within a maximum period of one year from the date of signing this declaration.” It also urged “the unification of Palestinian national institutions and the recruitment of the available resources necessary to implement reconstruction projects and support the infrastructure and social support for the Palestinian people”, in a way that supports its steadfastness in the face of the Zionist occupation.
The same declaration included emphasizing “the activation of the mechanism of the secretaries-general of the Palestinian factions to follow up on ending the division and achieving national unity and national political partnership, provided that an Algerian-Arab working group will supervise and follow up on the implementation of the terms of this agreement in cooperation with the Palestinian side, and Algeria will manage the team’s work.”
All the forces affirmed their commitment to developing and expanding the popular resistance and the right of the Palestinian people to resist.
The participants in the “Unification Conference for “Achieving Palestinian National Unity” also gave thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his initiative and sponsorship of the conference, in order to reach its results.
