People’s National Army: 9 supporting elements to terrorist groups arrested in one week

Nine (09) supporting elements of terrorist groups were arrested by combined detachments of the People’s National Army (ANP) which also thwarted attempts to introduce more than two quintals of cannabis coming from the borders with Morocco, from March 15 to 21, said an operational report released Wednesday by the Ministry of National Defense (MDN).

“In the dynamics of the continuous efforts of the fight against terrorism and multiform organized crime, units and detachments of the People’s National Army have carried out, during the period from 15 to 21 March 2023, several operations that led to quality results reflecting the high professionalism several operations have led to quality results reflecting the high professionalism, vigilance and permanent readiness of our Armed Forces throughout the national territory,” the same source said, noting that in the fight against terrorism, combined ANP detachments “arrested 9 supporting elements of terrorist groups in separate operations throughout the national territory.

In the framework of the fight against organized crime and “in continuity of the efforts to thwart the scourge of drug trafficking in our country, combined detachments of the ANP have arrested, in coordination with the various security services during operations carried out across the military regions, 39 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce quantities of drugs from the borders with Morocco, amounting to 2 quintals and 18 kilograms of cannabis, and seized 87,401 psychotropic tablets,” the MND statement added.

In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, Tindouf and Djanet, ANP detachments ” arrested 635 individuals and seized 23 vehicles, 205 generators, 137 jackhammers, 7 metal detectors, 11 tons of raw gold and stones, as well as quantities of explosives, detonation devices and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations “, The same source notes that “14 other individuals were arrested and 06 hunting rifles, 4.5 quintals of tobacco and quantities of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation amounting to 16 tonnes were seized during separate operations across the national territory.

In the same way, the border guards “foiled, in coordination with the national gendarmerie, attempts to smuggle large quantities of fuel amounting to 98,689 litres in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Souk Ahras, El-Tarf and Tébessa.

During the same period, the coastguards “thwarted attempts to emigrate illegally from our national coasts and proceeded to the rescue of 132 individuals aboard boats of artisanal construction, while 220 illegal immigrants of different nationalities were arrested throughout the national territory,” the statement concluded.
