Practicing trade union right: moving away from political practices and the organic link between unions and parties

The Council of Ministers today, Sunday, a number of provisions related to how to exercise the union’s right, including a proposal to “move away permanently, within what is stipulated by law, from political practices and the organic link between unions and parties,” according to a communiqué of the Council.

The statement indicated that the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired a cabinet meeting, in which a set of proposed provisions for how to exercise the union right was studied.

Among what was touched upon, in this context, was “moving away within the law from political practices, and the organic link between unions and parties.”

As part of the meeting, we also mentioned “the initiation of a broad debate on proposals for how to exercise the trade union right, in accordance with the contents of the Constitution, the applicable laws of the Republic and international laws,” bearing in mind that “union work is one of the democratic pillars, as enshrined in the Constitution.”

The proposed provisions also include, “emphasizing the return to the ABCs of internationally applicable union work, which is the defense of workers’ rights and the promotion of the work climate,” according to the same statement.
