President of the Republic: Algeria aims to doubling the production of gas for export

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune said Tuesday in Algiers, the ambition of Algeria to double its production of gas intended exclusively for export.

“We currently produce nearly 102 billion m3 of gas, half of it is consumed locally. I hope that in 2023, we will reach a production of 100 billion m3 of gas intended exclusively for export, “said Tebboune during his visit to the pavilion of oil industries of the Group Sonatrach, at the Algerian Production Fair (FPA-2022).

On this occasion, President Tebboune reaffirmed that Algeria was a “very reliable” energy partner for Europe, welcoming in particular the partnership between Algeria and Italy.

In this regard, the Chairman and CEO of Sonatrach, Toufik Hakkar, said that exports of Algerian gas to Italy had reached a record level.

“During this month, we have achieved a record level of our gas exports to Italy, a figure that we have not recorded since 2011. Our exports have approached 97 million m3 / day to Italy,” he added, noting that Algeria currently exports nearly 27 billion m3 of gas / year to this country.

Commenting on these figures, President Tebboune said that Algeria was not opposed to the fact that Italy becomes a hub for the distribution of gas (Algerian) to other countries, including Germany.

The President of the Republic took the opportunity to renew his greetings to all workers of Sonatrach, Naftal and Sonelgaz for their efforts to contribute to national development.

Halting at the pavilion of the group of phosphate industries, Mr. Tebboune stressed the importance of these industries that provide inputs for the agricultural sector, recalling that it is strictly prohibited to export mineral raw materials.

At the pavilion of Saidal, the President of the Republic noted the need to rehabilitate this group so that it can play its true role in the pharmaceutical industry in Algeria
