President of the Republic confirms that citizen is “sovereign decision-maker” in choosing his representatives in Parliament on June 12

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed, on Thursday in Algiers, that the citizen is the “sovereign decision-maker” on June 12 to choose his representatives in the next People’s National Assembly.

The President of the Republic said, during a visit to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Authority, at the invitation of its President, Mohamed Chorfi, that “the citizen is the decision-maker to choose his representatives in People’s National Assembly,” stressing that “the ballot box difference will be in determining who they will choose to represent them in Parliament.”

The President of the Republic added that “the era of quota is over, in light of respecting the laws regulating the electoral process in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and the new organic law for elections, and thus establishing a new phase in Algeria in implementation of obligations.”

On this occasion, the President of the Republic instructed the necessity of “protecting the voice of every citizen, in order to overcome previous practices that would prejudice the citizen’s confidence in his institutions.”

The President of the Republic also stressed that this benefit is “a first opportunity for young people and the financially vulnerable, to be representatives of the people, especially in light of the exclusion of corrupt and non-corrupt money from the electoral process,” which embodies, as he said, “achieving real representation to the citizen.”

The President of the Republic concluded by saying, addressing the supervisors of the authority’s operations hall, “You are a safety valve with regard to the confidence that the citizen will place in his institutions in the future,” noting that he has embarked as a first stage in renewing the legislative institution and soon it will be followed by elections for municipal and state councils, which are institutions close to the daily life of the citizen.”

For reference, alongside the President of the Republic at the headquarters of the Authority, with Mohamed Chorfi, was the President of the Constitutional Council, Kamel Fenniche, and the Adviser to the President of the Republic in charge of legal and judicial affairs, Boualem Boualem.
