
President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, presided over a meeting of the Council of Ministers, today, Sunday, during which a roadmap for the development of the national fleet for sea and air transport of goods was studied, and gave a number of instructions for the advancement of the sector, according to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic.
President Tebboune ordered, in this context, to “open an immediate investigation, to hold all those responsible for the deterioration of this strategic sector accountable, at all levels and responsibilities.”
He also ordered the merging of the two national companies, Cnan Med and Cnan Nord, which are specialized in maritime transport, into one company, with a “radical” review of the structure and policy of maritime transport of goods, at all levels, in order to rehabilitate it, and present a project of the new management strategy “within a month”.
The President of the Republic instructed to work by all means, for a technical settlement of Algerian ships, in international ports, in cooperation between Algerian ambassadors, in the concerned countries, and officials of the transport sector, in addition to paving the way for Algerian expertise specialized in the navy, especially qualified youth and veterans in this field, to create companies in the field of ship repair.
Concerning air transport, President Tebboune ordered a review of the way Algerian airlines operate, according to a modern plan, with international standards, and the revitalization of air navigation, in the various airports of the country, as strategic structures capable of reviving air traffic.
He also ordered preparations to complete the process of acquiring aircraft “as soon as possible” within the framework of renewing the Algerian air fleet, provided that the next cabinet meeting decides on the file.
The President of the Republic gave instructions to return to the flight rate of Air Algerie, before the Covid epidemic, with the intensification of Umrah trips and flights of a tourist nature between Paris and Djanet.
