President of the Republic meets with representatives of the national community in Qatar

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, met today, Sunday, in the Qatari capital, Doha, on the sidelines of his state visit to Qatar, at the invitation of its Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, with representatives of the national community in Qatar.

This meeting is part of the commitment of the President of the Republic to listen to the concerns of the national community settled abroad.

During this meeting with the national community, which took place in a “friendly” atmosphere, President Tebboune listened to the concerns and proposals of the various speakers and answered their questions concerning political and socio-economic issues relating to the country as well as ways to promote Algerian-Qatari relations.

Relations between the two countries offer “promising prospects” in several sectors, such as agriculture, the building of cities, basic infrastructure, and railways, he underlined, noting the discussions which aim to develop the national railway network and extend it to Tamanrasset, Adrar and even outside the country, like Niger.

The President of the Republic stressed that these projects are implemented in parallel with the project to extend the port of Djendjen in Jijel, making it a “port of Africa”, by connecting it to the rail network which will extend to Africa.

In terms of transport, President Tebboune unveiled the project to open an Algiers-Doha maritime line for the transport of goods and passengers, stressing that this project will be carried out before the end of 2022.

Regarding national political issues, President Tebboune underlined that “the blessed Hirak saved the country and allowed the holding of transparent and fair elections and the building of new institutions of the country with the participation of all its children”, insisting on “the opening of future prospects for young people and the forthcoming installation of the Higher Youth Council, as part of his commitments to pass on the torch to young people”.

On the economic level, the President of the Republic affirmed that Algeria was the only country in the region without external debt, specifying that “from 4.8 million dollars in 2021, non-hydrocarbon exports will reach 7 billion dollars next year, with the ambition of reaching 15 billion dollars in the years to come, to free ourselves from the dependence on hydrocarbons”.

Concerning the national community abroad, the President of the Republic called for “coordination and synergy” among the Algerians settled in Qatar and in other countries , underlining that the community abroad is a “force of ‘innovation’ at the service of the motherland.

The meeting took place in the presence of the members of the delegation accompanying the President of the Republic on his State visit to Qatar, the Algerian Ambassador to Qatar, executives and personalities from the media and sport settled in Qatar.

President Tebboune is accompanied in his State visit to Qatar by a ministerial delegation made up of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, the Minister of  Energy and Mines, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Minister of Housing, Town Planning and the City and the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues.
