President of the Republic stresses the need to speed up the entry into operation the five new seawater desalination plants

The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed, during a cabinet meeting that he presided over today, the need to speed up the entry into operation of the five new seawater desalination plants, according to a statement by the Council of Ministers.

The statement indicated that the President of the Republic, after listening to a presentation on the diagnosis related to drinking water for the provinces of Algiers, Oran and Constantine, stressed that “water security in Algeria goes only through seawater desalination technology, and therefore it is necessary, in an urgent manner, to speed up the entry into operation of the five new seawater desalination plants”.

The President of the Republic also gave instructions to “stop all drilling operations to use groundwater to supply the networks, in order to preserve the strategic stock of the current level, and not to expose the vegetation cover to environmental risks.”

The President of the Republic also emphasized “the optimal management of dam waters, in a manner that maintains a balance in the distribution among the country’s provinces,” according to the same statement.
