President Tebboune: Algeria intends to consolidate its strategic partnership with Italy

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed, on Monday in Algiers, Algeria’s determination to consolidate its position as a strategic partner of Italy in energy and to fulfill its commitments as a reliable regional and international supplier, hailing the level and quality of bilateral relations, especially in recent years.

“I would like to highlight the level of strategic relations between Algeria and Italy, as well as the efforts made in recent years to consolidate the partnership and promote trade, which have achieved exceptional results in a short period of time,” said President Tebboune in a joint press briefing with the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Georgia Meloni.

Trade between Algeria and Italy has risen from 8 billion dollars in 2021 to 16 billion dollars, which is “an indicator of convergence and the result of the approaches we have adopted to establish an upward dynamic in various areas of cooperation”.

In this context, the President of the Republic said he had reaffirmed, during his talks with Mrs Meloni, Algeria’s determination to consolidate its position as a strategic partner of Italy in energy and to fulfil its commitments as a reliable regional and international supplier, as well as for Italian industrial investments in Algeria.

For President Tebboune, the visit of the President of the Italian Council of Ministers to Algeria is of particular importance, especially as it comes on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing by the two countries of the Treaty of friendship and good neighbourliness.
