President Tebboune declares September 15 National Day of Imam

President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has decided to declare the date of September 15, which coincides with the anniversary of the death of the eminent Cheikh Sidi Mohamed Belkebir, National Day of Imam.

The announcement was made, on Wednesday in Adrar, in a message from the President of the Republic, read on his behalf by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, Youcef Belmehdi, at the work of the 19th edition of the national conference dedicated to the memory of Sheikh Sidi Mohamed Belkebir. This decision comes in recognition of the efforts of the Imam as well as his proven contributions in the building of the country and the formation of generations, and in consideration of his status, added the President of the Republic.

Sheikh Sidi Mohamed Belkebir was an “eminent scholar” and a “virtuous reconciler”, stressed the President of the Republic, adding that “through this tribute, in his school of teaching and training of imams and reciters of the Holy Quran, we contemplate with pride the fruits of the work of the eminent Sheikh, whose scientific and educational outreach goes beyond our national borders to illuminate other countries, especially in Africa.

During the opening session of the colloquium, several scholars and Shouyoukh from different regions of the country were honored for their efforts to defend and preserve the referent identity during the Revolution and for their contribution to the awakening of minds after independence.
