Prime Minister: The pharmaceutical industry is among the main sectors that are relied upon for economic recovery

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Aïmene Benabderrahmane confirmed today, Wednesday, in Constantine, that the pharmaceutical industry “is among the main sectors that depend on economic recovery as well as in the process of economic diversification.”

In a speech he delivered at the Marriott Hotel in the presence of ministers, state authorities, local elected officials, parliamentarians, experts and researchers, as well as representatives of social and economic partners, as part of a working visit he made today to Constantine, Mr. Benabderrahmane highlighted that the decisions taken by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by establishing the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and declaring this sector among the main sectors “is a good decision” as proven by the health crisis caused by Covid-19 pandemic.

In the same context, he added that the decisions of the President of the Republic “are based on an accurate perception and a deep understanding of reality and the stakes of achieving national security in its comprehensive sense,” especially those related to food, water, health and energy security.

When highlighting the importance of the pharmaceutical industry, Mr. Benabderrahmane added that it is one of the manufacturing industries with high added value, not to mention the great profitability that characterizes the drug market, which remains – as he added – among the necessary commodities with inelastic demand (i.e. the price is not affected by change in price), especially medicines related to the treatment of chronic diseases).
