Relizane: more than 43,000 quintals of off-season potatoes expected to be produced

More than 43,000 quintals of off-season potatoes are expected to be produced in the province of Relizane during the recently launched harvest operation, according to what was said today, Saturday by the Directorate of Agricultural services.

The directorate indicated that the amount expected to be produced will be harvested on a total area of ​​252.5 hectares, including 232.5 hectares for potatoes destined for consumption and 20 hectares for seeds.

The Sector Directorate expects that the average yield of this strategic product will turn around 280 quintals per hectare.

It’s worth recalling that most of the potato fields are located in the areas of Al-Hamadna, Ouel El Jomaa, Sidi Khattab, Belasal and Yellel, which are distinguished by their high production capacities.

It is worth noting that 5,270 quintals of potatoes stored in cold rooms were recently marketed as part of the program of controlling largely consumed agricultural products “Sirpalak” in order to ensure the supply of the market with this substance of wide consumption, in addition to controlling the market and stabilizing the prices of this substance which has recently known a high increase.

The price of marketed potatoes, which were stored in cold rooms, is 50 DA per kilogram, while the price before this operation was ranging between 95 and 120 DA.
