Signature of a memorandum of understanding between Sonatrach and German “VNG” company to develop projects of hydrogen

Sonatrach group signed, today, Tuesday in Algiers, a memorandum of understanding with the German gas company VNG-AG, to examine the possibilities of cooperation to implement projects in the field of green hydrogen and ammonia with the aim of exporting them to Germany, according to a statement of the group.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Algerian-German Energy Day held today, Tuesday.

Initially, the focus will be on completing feasibility studies related to the hydrogen value chain, from production and transportation to marketing, with the aim of assessing the potential of commercial projects that will be jointly developed in this field, according to the same statement.

The statement added that Sonatrach is “fully” involved in the national roadmap for the development of green hydrogen with the aim of launching pilot projects in the medium term, highlighting that the network of international channels linking Algeria and Europe, which can be used to transport green hydrogen, and the availability of solar energy production capabilities allow Sonatrach to engaging in a long-term strategy to implement green hydrogen projects at competitive costs.”
