
Culture Minister, Soraya Mouloudji, chaired today Friday the opening of 25th edition of Algeria International Book Fair SILA 2022 cultural program at the Exibitions Palace (Pins Maritimes) with the secretary of state of the Italian Foreign Minister
The minister of culture and arts Soraya mulouji, on Friday, the opening of the cultural program of the 25th edition of the International Book salon in Algeria at the palace of exhibitions (Marine pine) with the secretary of state to the Italian Foreign Minister Benedetto Della Vedova.
The Minister noted that ” the 25th edition of the International Book, which was inaugurated on Thursday by Prime Minister Aïmene Benabderrahmane, is organized under the supervision of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmajid Tebboune, after two years of absence due to the corona pandemic“, highlighting that this important cultural space attracts authors, publishers and readers”.
She added that the edition ” celebrates the memory of those who left us in the past period, we were deprived of saying goodbye to them and did not mourn them in a right way” noting that “we must recall their achievements and contributions”.
On the other hand, the Minister stressed the depth of historical relations between Algeria and Italy, guest of Honor edition, highlighting that “history is a line of chapters of historical relations between the two countries and it is the desire of Algeria to meet those who stood by its side as Algeria is liberating with a true will from the link of colonialism”.
“SILA 2022 is an opportunity for Algeria and Italy as we approach the 60th anniversary of independence and just since Victory Day, March 19, to renew the bilateral ties of friendship between the two countries and strengthen cooperation based on the bilateral agreements concluded.
For his part, the secretary of state to the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of culture, Benedetto Della Vedova, expressed in his speech his gratitude as Algeria’s authorities choosing Italy as the guest of honor of the 25th edition of the International Book salon in Algeria, which reflects the “strength and depth of friendship” between the two countries, stressing the importance of the exhibition “as an important cultural event at the Mediterranean level”.
“Italy has always been close to Algeria in the independence phase and after the independence, this relationship has been supported by the Italian President’s visit to Algeria by signing several cooperation agreements in the fields of culture,” added the same source.
Addressing the areas of cooperation between the two sides, Benedetto Della Vedova stressed “the importance of culture in strengthening dialogue, exchange and cooperation, as well as the importance of SILA as a space for sharing between publishers and authors”.
The Italian pavilion will organize several cultural events, including a memorial to Italians who supported the Algerian cause, led by businessman Enrico Mattei (1906-1962), as well as the memory to the late Martyr and diplomat Taïeb Boulahrouf (1923-2005), who was the representative of the Algerian provisional government in Rome in 1958.
The opening of SILA 2022 cultural program was marked by honoring ceremonies of intellectual and cultural figures and publishers, including the Moudjahid and writer Mohammed El Salah El Saddik, the writer Kaddour M’Hamsadji and the publisher Abdellah Chaknan (Dahlb publishing).
Mouloudji and the representative of Italy have visited the Italian pavilion of SILA 2022, an exhibition that will run until April first under the theme “ The book is a bridge of memory”.
The 25th edition of Algeria International Book Fair has a record participation of 1,250 publishers 266 are Algerian, offering more than 300,000 books in various sectors.
