“Sonatrach” group announced, Monday in a press release, the start of production of two gas fields in the Berkine basin (wilaya of Ouargla), within the framework of the first contract signed with the Italian company “Eni” under the aegis of the new law on hydrocarbons 19-13.
“As part of the Berkine-Sud contract, signed between Sonatrach and Eni in December 2021, under the aegis of the new law on hydrocarbons 19-13, Sonatrach announces the start of production of two gas fields linked to this contract”, says the same text.
“The production of these two fields took place in September 2022, i.e. only six months after the entry into force of the said contract, thanks to development in accelerated mode (Fast-Track)”, it is specified.
This new achievement, notes the same text, “makes it possible to achieve a daily production of 1 million cubic meters of gas and 4,000 barrels of associated liquids”, adding that “it is planned that this production capacity will be increased to 2 million cubic meters by the end of this year”.
“These additional quantities, added to the quantities produced by the two Berkine-Nord fields, which entered production in July 2022, increase the volumes of gas produced by the Sonatrach-Eni association and contribute to the increase in Algerian gas exports intended for to the European market,” the statement said.
