Sonelgaz engaged in modernization process throughout developing and implementing new strategy (Strategy 2035)

Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab said Tuesday from Bechar province that the group Sonelgaz had engaged in a process of modernization by  adopting a new strategy allowing him to evolve into a new style of governance and management.

“The Sonelgaz group has now embarked on a process of modernisation, by developing and implementing a new strategy (Strategy 2035) which will allow the group, in the context of its deployment, to evolve certainly towards a new style of governance and management, based on its missions and historical values,” the minister affirmed during a working visit to the wilaya of Bechar.

“This new governance system protects the rights and interests of the company and its workers, as well as Sonelgaz’s customers and the rights of the state, which is the sole owner and shareholder of the company,” he said at a regional meeting of the company’s executives in the south-west of the country.

The purpose of these transformations and modernization in which Sonelgaz is engaged, “is to create wealth and added value,” said Arkab during this regional meeting devoted to the new strategy of the group Sonelgaz.

“It is therefore necessary to focus on cost control in production, transport and distribution, and on respecting the deadlines of projects and investments, while ensuring the required quality,” he said.

In addition to developing human resources skills. Digitalization, which is part of the government’s action plan, should also figure prominently in the new strategy of the Sonelgaz group, underlined the Minister.

“Our country is facing a major challenge in terms of energy transition. The energy mix cannot continue to develop at the same pace and in the same structure as today, and clean energy, especially renewable energy, remains the optimal solution for the energy transition,” he explained.

Sonelgaz group, “has a major role in the country’s economic and social development and must be a key partner in the implementation of the national renewable energy development programme, given that it has all the experience, knowledge and skills needed to achieve success in this field”, said Arkab.

Accessing to the international market, and the African market in particular, is another challenge not to be neglected, as Algeria is a leading country on the African continent and in the world in terms of energy supply and infrastructure development, having invested great capacities in the export of this expertise,” the minister affirmed in front of the audience, while expressing his encouragement for the success and the implementation of this strategy.

The regional meeting of executives and representatives of Sonelgaz Group employees took place at the Tahri Mohamed University in Bechar.

The meeting was attended by Sonelgaz Group Chief Executive Officer, Chahar Boulakhras, who, in his presentation at the one-day meeting, called for the contribution of all Sonelgaz executives and workers to the success of this new strategy.
