State supports all medal-winning athletes in their preparations in Paris Olympics

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Abderrazak Sebgag, affirmed today, Tuesday in Algiers, that the state will support and sponsor all the medal-winning athletes in the Oran Mediterranean Games (June 25-6 July), in order to prepare carefully and appropriately ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games slated to be held in Paris (France). .

The minister, who was accompanied by the President of the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee, Abderrahmane Hammad, indicated during an evaluation meeting he had with the heads of the sports federations on the Algerian participation in the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, that “the results achieved by the athletes are unprecedented in the history of Algerian sport, and this is what leads us to changing our view of the future by setting goals ahead of the upcoming events, especially the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

After congratulating the heroes who were crowned with medals and hoisted the Algerian flag high, along with the technical and medical staff accompanying them, the minister pointed to “the need to draw up a road map in anticipation of future sports events and to evaluate the Algerian participation objectively avoid committing the same mistakes.”

In this context, he stated that “twelve (12) sports federations achieved results as part of the Oran Mediterranean Games out of 24 sports that were present in the competition.”

The first official in charge of the sector stressed that “the ministry’s goal is to maintain this level and create the appropriate atmosphere for these athletes in order to prepare well for the 2024 Olympic Games to be held in Paris,” noting that “the stability of the sports family is an important and pivotal factor in order to implement each strategy.”

It is worth noting that the Oran Mediterranean Games were marked by the participation of 3,390 athletes from 26 countries, who competed in 24 disciplines registered in the general program of the Games, including three exhibition sports.

Algeria won 53 medals (20 gold – 17 silver – 16 bronze), thus ranking fourth, a historic achievement for Algerian sports and an indicator of future successes.
