Swimming World Cup 2022: Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom wins the gold medal

Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom won the 50m freestyle gold medal at the 19th edition of the 2022 World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

With her victory today, Sarah wins her tenth world title and twentieth medal since her first participation in 2009.

The crowning of the 28-year-old Swedish with the 50-meter freestyle title comes 24 hours after winning her first title in this edition by winning the 50-meter butterfly for the fourth time in a row.

She secured a time of 23.98 seconds, ahead of Poland’s Katharina Vasek, who won the silver medal, while Australian Meg Harris and American Erica Brown shared the bronze medal after recording the same time.

Canadian Samer McIntosh, who is only 15 years old, won the gold medal in the 400-meter medley after recording 4:32.04 minutes in front of the Americans Katie Grimes (4:32.67) and Emma Wyant (4:36.00).

In the men’s 50 meters backstroke, American Hunter Armstrong did not enjoy winning the title for a long time, as he returned and his friend and compatriot Sten Reese won the gold medal after he was eliminated from the race in the first place.

Meanwhile, the victory in the medley relay race went to Italy thanks to Tocas Chicon, Nicolo Martinenghi, Federico Bordisso and Alessandro Merisi who secured a time of 3:27.51 minutes.

Italy raised the number of its gold medals in the current tournament to 7 out of 14 medals in total, in second place behind the USA (17 gold out of 45 medals) and ahead of Australia (6 gold out of 17 medals).
