The assassination of Haiti President at his residence

Haiti’s interim Prime Minister, Claude Joseph, announced today, Wednesday, the assassination of the country’s President, Jovenel Moise, in his residence, by unidentified gunmen.

Media sources quoted a statement by Joseph, in which he affirmed that unknown assailants attacked President Moise’s residence, during the night, and shot him dead.

According to the same source, the president’s wife was injured during the attack and was taken to hospital.

The interim prime minister said he is now in charge of the country’s leadership. He called on citizens to show calm, stressing that the police and the army would ensure order.

The slain president, 53 years old, was the forty-second president of the Republic of Haiti.

He took office in 2017 and is both a politician and a businessman.

It is worth recalling that the Ministry of Justice in Haiti had previously announced that it had thwarted a “coup attempt” against the slain president five months ago.
