The capital’s western highway closed during a wedding procession: those involved brought to justice

The National Gendarmerie services presented today, Sunday, to the public prosecutor at the Bir Mourad Rais court, 11 people involved in the case of blocking the western highway in Algiers during a wedding procession, causing stifling traffic, according to a statement from the same security agency.

According to the same source, “on February 04, 2022, at around 5:00 pm (17:00), on the western highway linking Ben Aknoun and Zeralda, some road users used their cars and motorcycles during a wedding procession, completely closing the highway, causing a suffocating traffic jam and completely paralyzing it.”

The statement added that “these drivers also made dangerous maneuvers while driving, in addition to making random stops and getting off their vehicles in the middle of the road and taking pictures and videos, obstructing traffic, indifferent to road users and the dangers that may result from such behavior.”

The statement indicated that, and “in the face of these committed acts, which are stipulated and punished under Article 408 of the Penal Code, the competent judicial authorities were notified and the National Gendarmerie units opened an investigation into the case, and after exploiting the information and evidence available to them, 11 people were arrested, causing the road to be closed. 07 vehicles and 08 motorcycles were seized, and today the detainees were presented before the Public Prosecutor at Bir Mourad Rais Court.
