The work of the international forum, entitled: “The Geopolitics of Extremism: Starting Points, Threats, Challenges and Confrontation Mechanisms”, concluded Sunday in Algiers, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense.
The source explained that “on the second and last day, the work of the international forum continued, entitled (The Geopolitics of Extremism: Starting Points, Threats, Challenges, and Confrontation Mechanisms), organized under the high patronage of Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, by the Institute of Postgraduate studies in national security on December 03 and 04, 2022”, recalling that the forum “activities opening was supervised yesterday, by Lieutenant General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of People’s National Army at the National Army Club in Beni Messous, in the presence of members of the government, high officials in the state and brigade officers and deans, as well as Algerian and foreign professors and experts, as the first day’s work continued with an introductory speech delivered by the Brigadier General, Director General of the Institute of Higher Studies in National Security, through which they reviewed the importance of the topic of the forum and its desired goals.
“For his part, and during his inaugural lecture, Professor Mhand Barkouk shed light on the geopolitics of extremism in light of the current global transformations,” the statement adds, pointing out that Dr. Youcef Belmahdi, Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, “touched, on his part, during his intervention on the strategy adopted by Algeria in combating extremism, while the spread of this phenomenon across most countries of the world requires a strategy to combat and put in place mechanisms for confrontation.
After that, “the work of the forum expanded – according to what was indicated – to a series of sessions that included a number of interventions presented by Algerian and foreign professors and experts who shed light on the phenomenon of extremism in its various dimensions and types and its repercussions on security and stability in the world, especially in the Arab world and Africa.
The work of the forum continued on its second day, with the interventions of professors and experts, as it focused on the various constitutional, legal, media and religious mechanisms that ensure the prevention of the phenomenon of extremism in all its forms.
And – as concluded by the statement of the Ministry of Defense – the Algerian experience in dealing with this phenomenon was reviewed, as well as the media approach and the role of Algerian diplomacy in this field, to finally conclude the work of the international forum with several valuable and diverse interventions that contributed to developing a comprehensive vision of the dimensions of the phenomenon of extremism and the mechanisms to combat and prevent it.”
