The largest weekly market in Bejaia closes its doors

Services of the province of Bejaia decided, yesterday, Thursday, to close the largest weekly market in the city in order to put an end to gatherings due to the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, as announced by the communication cell at the province headquarters.

Tens of thousands of people flock to this market, which is held twice a week in the upper city of “Idemko”, not far from the African Unity Stadium, and thus it constitutes a suitable and likely place for the spread of the pandemic, which has recently known an “alarming” increase.

In this regard, the province’s Directorate of Health and Population announced that there are currently approximately 300 people in various health structures in the province to receive treatment against Covid-19, while some fear, due to many factors, the possible increase in the number of cases infected with the pandemic, especially due to the leniency of citizens in adhering to the prevention measures.
