The visit of the President of the Republic to Egypt: strengthening bilateral cooperation and joint action at the Arab and African levels

The working and fraternal visit made by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Monday and Tuesday to the Arab Republic of Egypt enabled the two parties to stress the need for joint action at the Arab and African levels and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic field.

During this visit marked by intense activity, President Tebboune met face to face with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi, who gave him a solemn welcome at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, reflecting the depth of historical and fraternal relations that bind the two brotherly countries and peoples.

The talks focused on ways and means of strengthening bilateral cooperation, coordination and consultation around issues of common interest.

The talks were then extended to the delegations of the two countries who reviewed several issues related to bilateral cooperation in various fields, in particular higher education, scientific research and culture, to the bilateral partnership through the realization of various projects and the exchange of expertise in the field of startups and the knowledge economy, diplomatic cooperation, exchange of visits and ongoing coordination.

At the end of the talks during the second day of the visit, the two presidents stressed the need to work together to preserve the pioneering role of Algeria and Egypt in Africa and on the southern shore of the Mediterranean.

President Tebboune also declared that these talks were “rich and fruitful and are part of the permanent and continuous consultations on bilateral relations, and the efforts of the two countries for the strengthening of Arab and African cooperation and the achievement of security and stability in the region”.

It was also an opportunity to discuss economic cooperation, in particular economic exchanges and the facilitation of investment between the two countries, added President Tebboune.

In addition, the President of the Republic affirmed his desire to work, with the Arab leaders, to bring together the appropriate conditions for the Arab Summit that Algeria will host, in order to establish a basis for initiating joint Arab action “in a new spirit”.

After expressing the wish to “establish bridges of cooperation and understanding at the Arab and African levels”, the President of the Republic underlined that these talks were an opportunity to discuss “the regional, African and Arab geopolitical dimension in particular “, asserting that this is a “renewed objective in the Algerian-Egyptian-African and Algerian-Egyptian-Arab cooperation strategy”.

For his part, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi praised “Algeria’s efforts in the fight against terrorism in the Sahelo-Saharan region in the context of the challenges facing the region”, adding that he “has agreed to intensify joint efforts on the African stage and to continue coordination and cooperation at the level of the African Union (AU) to achieve prosperity and stability in Africa”.

Mr. Al-Sisi reaffirmed the pursuit of the fight against terrorism “through the activation of cooperation frameworks and mechanisms for consultation and coordination at all levels, including the achievement of inclusive development and dealing with foreign interference in the region”.

At the end of the press conference, the Egyptian President offered a lunch in honor of President Tebboune, in the presence of the delegation accompanying him and senior Egyptian officials.

President Tebboune gives his approval for the reopening of the Algerian Cultural Center in Egypt

On the first day of this visit, President Tebboune met representatives of the national community established in Egypt and listened to their concerns, giving instructions for their support.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic gave his agreement for the reopening of the Algerian Cultural Center in Egypt, closed for more than 7 years, specifying that the steps for the reopening of the center should take “one or two months”.

The Head of State had exchanges with the members of the National Community on the State’s policy aimed at involving them in the process of institutional construction, emphasizing the priority he gives to the National Community in its program of action, as evidenced by the latest measures taken at the National Conference on Diplomacy held recently in Algiers.

Affirming to follow daily and with interest the situation of the national community established abroad, the President of the Republic saluted “the hospitality and the fraternity” that the brotherly Egyptian people devotes to the Algerian community in this country.

The members of the community established in Egypt welcomed the particular interest given to them by President Tebboune for the management of their concerns through practical and concrete steps.

“Some usurp the Algerian culture and identity”, which requires the reopening of the Cultural Center to preserve the rich Algerian heritage, said one of the members of the Algerian community established in Egypt.
