Turkey earthquakes: 22,327 people killed

Turkey’s recent devastating earthquakes killed at least 22,327 people and injured 80,278, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said in a new report Sunday morning.

Koca, quoted by the Anadolu news agency, speaking at a press conference he held with his defence colleague Hulusi Akar in the coordination centre of the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) in the stricken southern province of Hatay.

The Minister stressed that Hatay Provincial University Hospital is still providing all necessary medical services to the injured following the earthquakes.

At dawn on Monday, an earthquake of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed a few hours later by another 7.6 magnitude earthquake and strong aftershocks, which caused huge loss of life and damage in both countries.
