The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, continued yesterday, Tuesday, his intensive activities in New York, as part of the proceedings of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, by holding a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Member States, in addition to his participation in high-level meetings, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued today, Wednesday.
“Mr. Lamamra participated in the opening session of the General Assembly’s general debate, which this year revolves around the theme (Building Resilience Through Hope – to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic), rebuilding sustainability, responding to the needs of the planet, respecting human rights, and revitalizing the United Nations,” the statement said.
The statement added that Minister Lamamra “confirmed that Algeria will seize this opportunity to present its vision and present its approach to enable the international community to transcend the current and critical stage of human history.”
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Mr. Lamamra held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of: South Africa, Jordan, Greece, Ireland, Vietnam, Estonia and Spain. It should be noted that Ireland, Vietnam and Estonia currently hold non-permanent positions at the Security Council.
Mr. Lamamra also received, at the headquarters of the Algerian mission to the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean.
Meanwhile, the Minister was received by the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, to whom he conveyed a message from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The meetings centered on bilateral relations and coordinating positions on regional and international issues, according to the same statement.
The Algerian Diplomacy Chief examined with his counterparts the state of bilateral relations and means and ways to further develop them while his talks with the Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean, Nasser Kamel, allowed to review many issues related to Euro-Mediterranean cooperation and the prospects for establishing balanced relations between the two shores that preserve the interests of both parties and serve the goals of peace, security and sustainable development, the statement concluded.
