US Secretary of State hails role of Algeria in promoting stability in Sahel region and Libya

US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, expressed, during a phone call on Thursday, with Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum, his appreciation for Algeria’s role in promoting stability in Sahel region and Libya, according to US State Department spokesman Ned Price.

In a statement published by US State Department, Ned Price affirmed, that “Secretary Blinken expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s role in promoting stability in the Sahel region and Libya. He also commended Algeria’s economic and energy diversification efforts and its desire to attract more U.S. businesses to Algeria.”

The US Secretary of State expressed “the gratitude of the United States for being the guest of honor at the 2022 edition of Algeria’s International Trade Fair,” the spokesman added.

The two ministers discussed the “strengthening of bilateral relations which are based on common values ​​and interests,” and “reaffirmed the strength of the US-Algerian partnership,” according to Price.

The US State Department emphasized that the call was an occasion to discuss “opportunities for increasing cooperation in Africa to promote economic prosperity and regional stability.”

Following the call, Blinken wrote in a tweet on his official Twitter page: “I had the pleasure to speak with the Algerian Foreign Minister Boukadoum and reaffirm the importance of our relations that help us consolidate our common interests. We discussed our desire to see stability and prosperity in Libya and the Sahel region, and I am glad I wished him a happy and blessed month. ”

Mr. Boukadoum said in a tweet yesterday, Thursday, on Twitter: “During a phone call with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, we discussed ways and means to revive and strengthen the strategic partnership between Algeria and the United States of America in various fields.”. The tweet went on saying: “We also exchanged views on regional issues of common interest, especially the situations in Western Sahara, Libya and Mali”.
