Vehicles of the Italian “Fiat” will be produced in Algeria from next March

The President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, announced on Monday in Algiers the production, from next March in Algeria, of vehicles of the Italian manufacturer “Fiat”, subsidiary of the multinational automobile group “Stellantis”.

“The manufacturer Fiat is starting to open its plants and the production of vehicles will begin very soon, in March, as well as the commercialising of vehicles of the Italian brand, including electric ones,” said President Tebboune during a joint press briefing with the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni.

The Ministry of Industry and the “Stellantis” group had signed, on 13 October 2022, a framework agreement on the development of car manufacturing activities and after-sales and spare parts services of “Fiat”.

Fiat” car factory is located in the commune of Tafraoui in the province of Oran on a 40-hectare estate and an adjacent 80-hectare estate, dedicated to local suppliers and subcontractors.

President Tebboune went on to say that it is expected that the production of “Vespa” motorbikes will be launched in Guelma before “moving on to other stages” of this bilateral partnership, stressing that “the two countries are working to expand their cooperation on all levels”.

In this context, the President of the Republic recalled the significance of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Good Neighbourliness.

“Algeria’s ambition is to make Italy a hub for the distribution of Algerian energy in Europe, whether electricity or gas, not only natural gas, but also hydrogen, ammonia and others,” he added.

Regarding Italian investments in Algeria, the President of the Republic highlighted Algeria’s “important experience” with Italian industry, saying that “the majority of Algerians who have invested in this industry were satisfied, as Italy has taken the right path to become an industrial power in the field of small and medium-sized industries, making it a model to be emulated in these fields”, he added.
