Volume of exports outside hydrocarbons at Oran port increased by more than 200 percent during first ten months of current year

The volume of exports outside hydrocarbons at the port of Oran increased by more than 200 percent during the first ten months of the current year compared to the same period in 2020, according to the president and director general of the port.

These exports included 798,771 tons of clinker, 308,616 tons of various types of iron, and 28.728 tons of cement, in addition to exporting for the first time 8,256 tons of soybean oil, according to Mokhtar Kourba.

The export of materials outside of hydrocarbons during the past year at Oran port was limited to clinker, whose quantity was estimated at 196,200 tons, as was indicated.

On the other hand, at the level of Oran port, 8,144.935 tons of various goods were processed during the first ten months of this year, compared to 8,381,026 tons during the same period in 2020, which represents a “slight” decrease of 2.82 percent.

The movement of solid cargo in the port also witnessed a growth rate of approximately 10 percent compared to what was achieved in the same period last year, reaching a volume of 4,584,323 tons.

Grain imports of all kinds came at the forefront of solid goods, reaching 2,456,426 tons, a decline of 341,195 tons over the same period of the previous year.

The import of livestock food also witnessed a rise of nearly 24 percent, as it moved from 700,787 tons during the first ten months of the last year to 868,830 tons during the same period of the current year.

The volume of liquid cargo amounted to 224,475 tons, which represents 2.76 percent of the total processed cargo during the same period, which included fuels, vegetable oils and used oils. Its volume decreased by 24.46 percent compared to the previous year.

The activity of miscellaneous goods also witnessed a decline of 14.31 percent, reaching 3,893,198 tons in the first ten months of the year 2020, to decrease to 3,336.137 tons in the same period of the current year.

Oran port recorded a decline in container activity in the same period, as it handled 177,743 containers, compared to 185,937 containers in the same period last year, a decrease of 4.41 percent.

With regard to the movement of passengers and vehicles, the port of Oran recorded a traffic movement of 15,676 passengers since last October, after a hiatus of nearly two years due to the Coronavirus pandemic, compared to 33,669 passengers (who came before the pandemic and were stranded abroad due to the Coronavirus pandemic who were repatriated to the homeland) in the same period last year, while the movement of vehicles since last October amounted to 7,303 vehicles, compared to 15,836 vehicles during the past year, according to Mokhtar Kourba.
