Warning against the Moroccan occupier’s reckless disregard for the lives of the Sahrawis and their defenders

The Sahrawi National Committee for Human Rights warned against the dangerous escalation of the Moroccan occupation against Sahrawi activists, holding Morocco fully responsible for the serious consequences of this situation on the lives of the family of Sultana Khaya and defenders of the Sahrawi cause.

In a statement, the National Committee condemned “the Moroccan occupier’s reckless disregard for the lives of innocent people and disregard for the relevant international conventions”, holding the Moroccan state fully responsible for the serious consequences that may affect the life of Sultana Khaya and that of the American activists in the Sahrawi activist’s besieged home in the occupied city of Boujdour.

The Committee expressed its absolute solidarity with the American human rights delegation, considering its initiative to visit the Khaya family as a “noble stand of solidarity and support for the lifting of the unjust siege imposed on them”.

He also called on the international community and bodies responsible for the protection of human rights to intervene to put pressure on the Makhzen to stop its systematic methods of repression and to guarantee the protection of the Khaya family and the American activists standing in solidarity, “whose lives are in danger due to the irresponsible and shameful behaviour of the Moroccan occupation authorities”.

The Committee also made an urgent appeal to the US Administration for “urgent intervention to put an end to these serious violations committed by the Moroccan occupation, without sanction or reproach, and to guarantee access to the occupied territories of the Saharawi Republic”.

It also called on the UN Security Council, the General Secretariat, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross to “intervene urgently to prevent a further deterioration of the human rights situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories, to work for the immediate release of all Sahrawi political detainees in Moroccan prisons and to send commissions of enquiry to the occupied territories to investigate the systematic violations of international humanitarian law that are occurring.
