Weightlifting: Algeria granted hosting of African championships 2022

Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA) has granted the organization of the African championships 2022 to Algeria, the Algerian federation governing the sport said Wednesday, adding that it is waiting the validation of the ministry of Youth and Sport.

“After a long series of negotiations with the African Confederation, the president of the Algerian Weightlifting Federation, Ismaïl Boulahia, has succeeded in securing the organisation of the 2022 edition, while waiting for the project to be validated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” said the federal body in a statement.

The African Confederation took this decision on the sidelines of the kick-off of the 2021 edition, hosted by the Kenyan capital Nairobi, from 24 to 31 May.

Moreover, and taking advantage of the occasion, Boulahia proposed to the African Confederation to organise a North African competition, for young talents, aged between 11 and 14, from four countries: Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Libya.
