Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front Mohamed Salem Ould Salek said Saturday that “no direct or indirect contact has been established between Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and the Kingdom of Morocco,” stressing that “a new ceasefire remains dependent on full compliance with the principles of the African Union (AU).”
Answering a question from Sahrawi Press Agency (SPS) on news relayed by media sites reporting “contacts” on the ceasefire between SADR and the Moroccan occupier, Ould Salek denied their existence between the two parties. “There is no direct or indirect contact between SADR and Polisario Front on the one hand, and the Kingdom of Morocco on the other hand,” he said.
Speaking about the 14th Extraordinary African Summit themed “Silencing the weapons”, which focused on reaching a new cease-fire agreement and a solution based on the rights of the Sahrawi people, the principles and objectives of the AU and UN decisions, the Sahrawi minister recalled that “the old cease-fire agreement of 1991 has expired since November 13.”
“The international community is fully aware that the sole responsible for this violation is Morocco, because of its denial of the agreement signed with the Front for the Liberation of Seguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (Polisario Front), commonly known as the “1991 UN-Africa settlement plan,” stressed Ould Salek.
The member of the Secretariat of the Polisario Front stated clearly that “the war that began on November 13 is part of the legitimate right of Sahrawi people to defend their lands, territorial integrity and sovereignty”.
“The war will continue until the respect of the conditions set at the extraordinary summit themed “Silencing the weapons” and the respect of the absolute right of Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, in accordance with Articles 3 and 4 of the Constitutive Act of the AU,” said the same official.
