
The Sahrawi Arab Republic participated in the Nigerian capital, Niamey, in the meeting of senior officials concerned with industrialization and economic diversification organized by the African Union, according to the Sahara Press Agency.
The Sahrawi Republic was represented in this meeting by its Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mr. Lamine Baali and the meeting discussed “issues related to industrialization, economic diversification and African free trade, in preparation for the meeting of ministers to be held at the end of this month,” according to the agency.
The meeting stressed the “necessity and importance for Africa to continue its commitment and move forward to transform the continent’s exports from mere basic raw materials to developed products, rich in added value.”
The meeting discussed the draft agenda of the joint meeting of African Union ministers responsible for industry and economic diversification, it adds.
It also discussed “the issue of industrialization in Africa to renew the continent’s commitments towards inclusive industrialization and sustainable industrialization through the industrialization and development of Africa and drawing a comprehensive map of the eight regional economic groups in view to integrating regional value chains and paving the way for the integration of value chains and strategy, innovation, intellectual property rights and technology transfer in order to enhance productivity and purchasing power, and ensure the quality of manufactured materials”, according to the same source.
