
The 2022 World Social Forum held in Mexico has called for the need to find a final settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara, in accordance with the requirements of international legitimacy and under the auspices of the United Nations, according to the Saharawi News Agency (SPS).
The Sahrawi participants in the forum, whose proceedings cocluded on Friday, in the Mexican capital, Mexico City, stressed “the need to contribute to supporting an urgent, just and final settlement of the Western Sahara issue in accordance with the requirements of international legitimacy,” and called for “the entry of the two parties to the conflict: the Polisario Front and Morocco in direct negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.
The participants in the joint forum workshop condemned “blind normalization (with the Zionist entity) and its dangerous consequences for the Palestinian cause and stability in the region.” They also expressed their rejection of all forms of violence, persecution, injustice and corruption, and called for coordinating the work of bodies and organizations, unifying efforts and working to achieve justice, stability and peace in the region as well as the aspirations of its peoples.
The forum was marked by interventions by the External Relations and Communication Officer of the Union of Workers of Saguia el-Hamra and Oued Eddahab, Mami Obeidi, and the Secretary-General of the Union of Sahrawi Journalists, Writers and Writers, Nafai Ahmed Mohamed, and Laaroussi Abdullah, a member of the Association of Parents of the Missing and Political Detainees of the Sahrawi “Afapradesa”.
The Sahrawi delegation also participated in several workshops devoted to women’s issues, human rights, peace and conflict resolution, among others, and had several meetings with participants of different nationalities and participating civil society bodies.
The Sahrawi exhibition, which was organized at the front of the Minera Palace in the center of the Mexican capital, allowed the participants in the forum to see some aspects of the suffering and struggle of the Saharan people for freedom and independence, the same source adds.
The Saharawi cause and the just struggle of its people topped the proceedings of the World Social Forum 2022 edition in Mexico, which lasted for a week and witnessed the organization of lectures, discussion workshops and an exhibition on the stages of the struggle and aspects of the Saharan resistance.
The participants in the World Social Forum affirmed the justice of the struggle of the Sahrawi people, praising their patience and struggle for their independence, and called on the international community to achieve legitimacy and victory for its charters by empowering the Sahrawis with their right to self-determination.
