Youcef Khlifi elected as the new president of the Algerian Boxing Federation

Youcef Khelifi was elected new president of the Algerian Boxing Federation (FAB) for the rest of the 2020-2024 Olympic term, following the elective general assembly held Monday at the Center for the regrouping and preparation of national teams in Souidania (Algiers).

President of the Bejaïa league, Khelifi secured 28 votes, against 21 votes for Abdelfetah Belarbi, after a very close vote which led the two candidates to compete in a second round. During the first round of the election, Youcef Khelifi, president of the Béjaïa league, obtained 24 votes against 21 for Belarbi, while the third candidate, namely Abbas Abdelkader, president of the Algiers league, won two votes.

For the new president of the FAB, “a huge project awaits the federal office in order to propel the discipline to a higher level, while highlighting the work done by the coaches who must be amply rewarded.”

“Our mission is difficult especially since we are halfway through our term, but we must overcome all our differences in order to bring together the family of boxing, a discipline that has given so much to Algeria both globally and at the Olympic level. “, Khelifi said adding that he intends to organize a national technical college in the coming days in order to discuss the ways and means that can improve the shortcomings from which the discipline suffers and give a new dynamic to boxing practitioners.

“The urgency is to give all the necessary means to the male and female national teams in order to represent Algeria in the next international events”, he noted.

It’s worth recalling that the election of Youcef Khelifi comes following the provisional suspension pronounced against Noureddine Fazil-Ferhat who was elected on March 18, 2021 at the head of the Algerian Boxing Federation (FAB) for the 2021-2024 Olympic term.
