380 MEPs urge Biden to reverse Trump decision on Western Sahara

Many Europe parliamentary groups from different European countries called today, Tuesday, on US President Joe Biden to reverse Donald Trump decision regarding his recognition of the alleged sovereignty of Morocco over Western Sahara, and to resume the course of international law and the United Nations Charter in relation to this dossier.

According to Sahrawi media outlets, the Swiss parliamentary group – which coordinated the initiative – indicated, in a press release today, that parliament representatives who signed the motion – about 380 parliament members from Europe – “expressed their strong dissatisfaction of President Trump’s bargaining for Morocco’s recognition of Israeli entity, in exchange for the American recognition of the alleged “sovereignty” of Morocco over Western Sahara. The group stressed the need to complete the decolonization process under the supervision of the United Nations,

These members of European Parliament stressed on “the necessity of finding a solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, which must pass by the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination, as declared by United Nations resolutions since the 1960s.

The letter attracts the attention of US President, Joe Biden, to the tragedy of this long-standing conflict that left Sahrawi people deprived from their basic rights, and that kept them away from their land for more than 45 years.
