The Minister of Industry Ahmed Zeghdar indicated, Thursday in Algiers, that the installation of sectoral committees is likely to draft program contracts according to each industrial branch in a participatory manner, thus allowing for the promotion of the activities of the industrial sectors.
In his opening speech during the national symposium on establishing a system of governance and neighborhood between public authorities and economic operators, the minister explained that the goal of installing sectoral committees lies in paving the way for various actors to contribute to strategic decision-making and expressing their aspirations and needs through the formulation of program contracts according to each branch.
Zeghdar went on to say, “The industrial development strategy will not be limited to the scope of the enterprise or industrial groups, but will include the entire network of the industrial branch.”
He also announced that this program will be gradually put into practice, as four (04) sub-committees were established, during the symposium, for the food industries, mechanical industries, electrical/electronic industries, and textile and leather industries.
According to the minister, the selection of these sectors “came first as a justification for these branches to reach a very advanced organizational level in view of the role they play in the development of the national industry.”
It also came to achieve the desired goal by the government of valuing national production, promoting investment, reducing the import bill and integrating institutions into the international economic ecosystem, which will allow achieving the goal of raising industrial GDP to 10 and 15 percent and transforming the structure of the national economy.
Zeghdar added that one of the objectives of this approach is to promote the application of the principles of the governance system as “one of the most important and necessary processes necessary for the good functioning of companies and the assurance of their management integrity.”
He also considered that the importance of implementing corporate governance is not limited to companies, but extends beyond it to reach the national economy in general through its direct impact on attracting investments, supporting the economy and the ability to compete in the long run.
Meanwhile, the minister stressed that “the public authorities are striving today more than ever to move towards searching companies that have the ability to create high-value jobs, preserve the environment, enhance natural resources and upgrade regions, while continuing to ensure the compliance with regulations and standards.”
Moreover, the Minister considered that governance and dialogue between public authorities and economic operators will only be effective by laying the necessary foundations in a sustainable manner, through the strategic committees of industrial branches, where the Ministry of Industry will adopt a “participatory and consultative method” based on dialogue and well-studied and achievable goals.
